The Penny podcast is for creatives, technologists and disrupters. It is where entrepreneurs share their stories about their business craft. Join us for some inspirational thinking and doing. From initial concept, to devising sustainable business models, building community, and keeping the lights on, everything is up for discussion. We delve into the structures, systems and disciplines entrepreneurs have had to put in place to underpin the big idea. We ask how they navigate the world we live in today, where the workplace is more concept than bricks and mortar. What rituals do they use to keep in the flow and how does creative practice support this? History: Originally created for the Goldsmiths University Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship Master’s degree students. It began during the pandemic as a platform for these entrepreneurs to document their creative process, discuss their business ideas and the impact of a crazy moment in history on the creative industries. It has now expanded to include a broader church of entrepreneurs and startups both in and outside the academic space.

The Penny podcast is where creatives, technologists and disrupters share their exciting and inspiring journeys which are often non-linear and this story is no exception.
In this episode, we're delighted to be talking with creative entrepreneur Fiona McLoughlin, owner of Old Cow Clayworks, in Drumshanbo, Ireland.
She tells the story of her major career change and how she left her successful 20 year photographic and management career behind to realise her childhood dream of becoming a potter. She is now on the cusp of launching her own shop and working with one of the biggest new business success stories in Ireland – Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin.
We talk about how she has developed her creative practice, the entrepreneurial support she has received and the skills she has needed to develop. We also learn about her brand story, how she approaches marketing and sales, and the work she has done in setting up her own studio.
